What to expect after your baby is immunised

Vaccines are weak or dead "copies" of the potentially harmful virus or bacteria.

While the vaccine is absolutely safe, the body may sometimes react to the foreign material.

This reaction may cause:

1. Fever

2. Decline in appetite, and/or non-specific unhappiness

3. Tenderness at the injection site

All of these symptoms will improve after an appropriate dose of painkillers, e.g. Panado, or Calpol.

Very occasionally, a child will experience a more severe reaction to one of the vaccines.

If you are in doubt, consult your doctor or Sister Bronwen.
